Can I use cream, sugar, honey or sweeteners with green tea?

Green tea is unlike black tea in that it is always meant to be consumed straight

In Asia it is unheard of to add cream, sugar, etc. These additives will only add unwanted calories or, with artificial sweeteners, disrupt the delicate taste.

green tea should be consumed straight with no sugar or cream

There are also negative effects on health benefits

If you add milk or cream a protein-casein- binds catechins negating their benefits. This greatly reduces the healthiness of the tea.

This is particularly true with matcha

matcha straight with no sugar or cream
Ceremonial Grade Matcha

Premium grade matcha straight with no sugar or cream
Premium Grade Matcha

Recently "matcha lattes" and matcha mixed with juices and other beverages have become trendy.

Culinary grade matcha is used in cooking and for making cakes, ice cream, etc. Not Ceremonial or Premium grade matcha. More on high-quality matcha.

Adding anything is not good. It is not good for health benefits and it is not good for taste!
